Post-Holiday To-Do List: HVAC Maintenance

|

We completely understand your need to rest after the holidays, but as a homeowner, there's definitely some things that you want to take care of before getting back to your daily life. Here are some quick post-holiday tasks for your HVAC checklist:

Importance of HVAC Maintenance During the Holiday Season

Call an HVAC Technician

It's always a good idea to have a qualified HVAC technician check out your equipment once per year, and post-holiday is the perfect time to do this. He or she will be able to point out any problems that your system may be experiecing and can perform maintenance that will prolong its operational lifespan and improve its efficiency.

Take a Look at the Air Filter

Your furnace's air filter should be checked and either replaced or cleaned every 1-3 months. You've probably been too busy over the holidays to monitor it closely, so once things wind down, be sure to check it out and take care of it as needed.

Check for Air Leaks

If your home was a busy area over the holidays, then you may have new air leaks that are causing you to waste energy, especially around your doors and windows. Take a look at these two areas and seal any gaps or cracks that you find right away. You should also check your ductwork, which has probably been used quite a bit in your attempts to heat your home throughout the season.

Remove Any Blockage from Your Registers

During the holidays, there's a lot of commotion going on. Things get moved around, relatives are coming and going, gifts are being exchanged, etc. This means that something might have been placed in front of or on top of the registers, which can alter your HVAC system's ability to efficiently heat your home. Check all the registers and remove anything that could be preventing proper airflow.
