Top Heating Alternatives for Your Home

Home
|

As the winter months approach, homeowners have a tendency to reach for their thermostats at the first sight of a chilly morning. We can't blame them, of course, but there are plenty of heating alternatives that will help save you energy and money.

Here are some green heating options to try this winter:

Solar Power

In recent years, solar power has been front and center in the renewable energy conversation. You don't have to wait for a huge shift in society, though. You can invest in solar panels for your home right now and reap the energy-saving benefits.

Geothermal Energy

If you don't want to get your power from above, perhaps you should look in the opposite direction. Geothermal systems use the heat beneath the planet's surface to keep homes warm at a lower cost than traditional heating. And just like the sun, this incredible power resource isn't going anywhere.

Fireplaces

Many people these days seem to view their fireplaces as little more than an attractive ornament. But if you want to stay warm, a fireplace will do the trick. It may not be able to heat up your entire home, but for the main area, it's typically perfect. And don't get that it's cozy, too.

Space Heaters

If you move around your home a lot or simply need to heat up a small area, space heaters could be exactly what the doctor ordered. These little units get quite warm and many couples and families love gathering in front of them as a way to stay warm without using a lot of energy.

Blankets and Sweaters

You can't get much more energy-efficient than the use of blankets and sweaters to stave off the cold. When the air is cold but not unbearable, pulling on a sweater and/or covering yourself with a blanket will do wonders at keeping you warm.
