The Importance of Fall HVAC Maintenance

|

If you're like most homeowners, you're beginning the yearly transition from the summer heat to the cooler months of fall. We want to make sure everything goes smoothly for you, so we've taken it upon ourselves to compile a quick list of fall HVAC maintenance tasks for you to complete:

Schedule Maintenance of Your HVAC System

To keep your HVAC system operating at peak performance, please schedule an annual maintenance with one of our qualified technicians. If you didn't have the unit serviced before the start of summer, now's the time.

Clean or Replace the Air Filter

Air filters are great at removing contaminants and dust from your air, but they also fill up rather quickly. At the start of the fall season, check the filter and either clean or replace it (depending on the type you have). Then, be sure to check it again each month.

Install a Smart Thermostat

Old school thermostats just don't cut it anymore in terms of controlling your energy costs. A smart thermostat will allow you to set the days and times when your system is running and can be operated remotely as needed.

Remove Debris from the Outdoor Unit

It is common for an HVAC system's outdoor unit to become covered or clogged by debris, often including tree branches and bird's nests. Most of this can be cleaned off by hand, but spraying down the unit with a hose will ensure that you don't miss anything.

Seal Leaks Around Your Doors and Windows

Air leakage leads to increases in energy costs as your HVAC system is forced to work harder to heat or cool your home. Cracks and gaps are common around doors and windows, so make sure you seal all that you find with either caulk or weatherstripping.
