Zone 1: The kitchen, breakfast nook, family room and utility room are combined into one zone due to similar solar-load requirements.

Zone 2: The large great room, dining room and foyer are grouped together due to their zone proximity and airflow supply.

Zone 3: The master bedroom, master bath and walk-in closet can be programmed as one unit for ideal comfort, even at night.

Zone 4: The extra bedroom on the main floor that isn’t used often is ideal for an extra zone. This zone can be adjusted down or up to save energy when the room is not in use.

Zone 5: Controlling the upstairs as a single zone allows greater comfort for the entire upstairs area.

Zone 6: The basement becomes its own zone for more control in all seasons.

In a two-story home with basement, the upstairs can be zoned as one area without affecting temperatures downstairs. In warm weather, the upstairs can be cooled independently from the main floor.

In a single-story home, the southwest area that receives the most sunlight during the day and the master bedroom might be zoned separately for additional comfort and efficiency.
